Our first full day in Rome was fantastic. We walked all over the city and saw so much, and somehow our timing worked out perfectly. Siestas are clearly an unrealized talent for each of us - breaking up the day with a nap makes it feel like we get two days for every one. We befriended the old man who owns the coffee shop down the street and he pointed us toward a church that was a real win. In general we feel like idiots every time we open our mouths to speak Italian...but most people have been gracious. We've done a lot of googling on he home wifi...how to work the ancient coffee pot, what does SPQR stand for, the 5 minute version of the history of Rome, and where the heck is the metro (among other directions). Next on the list is figuring out how to work the stove...I tried to light it to no avail, thus, no coffee. And maybe we'll figure out how to use the bidet. Or maybe we'll just let it be. modern technology is amazingly helpful! It is so great to Skype with our family every night!
Here are some photos highlights from day one.
